Burning Art is an adventure in metal. Zophia Kneiss explores many aspects of metal working to bring to her artwork. She does metal fabrication with many metal alloys, traditional blacksmithing, horseshoeing, sculpture, functional art and commissions. Her motto is “If you can dream it, I can build it!” She has come through with that promises and often exceeds the expectations of her clients. For her the hard and dirty work on an anvil and in her metal shop is a labor of love. One can tell when looking at her work that she puts extra time and process into each individual piece. When she builds sculpture, she keeps the integrity of her art work on even the small pieces because each one is a one of a kind piece and a reflection of her dreams. That means it is not cut from a mold and hammered differently or just colored differently; each piece is an original and unique drawing on metal and put together like no other piece in the world. When she makes scrap metal animals she does not order pieces in bulk and make multiples. She goes through the process of finding the objects and putting each animal together one at a time. She does this because her greater goal is to do large installation sculpture for children to play on, art that can be touched and makes humans feel small because of its scale. Each piece is a reflection of her life and work, which includes Peace Corps adventures, rescuing animals and in general giving back to the community. On her tour with the Peace Corps in the Philippines she received an amazing view of artists’ role in society, in the community and she tries to fill that by helping people and animals with her art and participating in community activities. Her art is what she lives, and it is beautiful.
