The Lake County Board of County Commissioners meetings may consist of several components, including work sessions, discussion agenda items (departmental business), consent agenda items and public hearings. Lake County residents are encouraged to attend the meetings and to speak at public hearings.
The Board normally meets in regular sessions the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Administration Building, located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
Special meetings and/or work sessions may be called as necessary. While public comments may not be taken at these work sessions, the public is invited to attend. Copies of the agenda are available at the Commission Office as well as via the County website on the Board Agendas page.
Work sessions: Detailed, round-table discussions concerning items of critical importance, needed directions to staff, consideration of options.
Discussion Agenda (departmental business): Items requiring policy decisions, directives to staff or briefings for informational purposes.
Consent Agenda: Routine items that require Board approval, but do not call for detailed discussion (i.e., approval of minutes, acceptance of deeds)
Public Hearings: Items of critical importance to the public, matters that affect individual rights of citizens, tax or budget issues, land use and zoning approvals and adoption of ordinances. Notice requirements for public hearings vary based upon the circumstances of each particular situation. Where the Board acts as a quasi-judicial body or takes official action on matters that affect individual rights of citizens, the Board is subject to statutory requirements that stipulate notice should be published in a local newspaper generally no less than 15 days prior to the meeting.
