Lake County Hurricane Irma aftermath update  

RELEASE DATE: September 12, 2017

TAVARES —The Lake County Emergency Operations Center remains at Level 1 – Full Activation in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma as damage assessments, debris cleanup and power restoration continues. Today, County Commission Vice Chairman Leslie Campione extended Lake County’s local state of emergency for seven days. All offices of the Board of County Commissioners, including the Lake County Animal Shelter, parks, and branch libraries will remain closed on Wednesday, Sept. 13 due to power issues, with the exception of Solid Waste facilities and Public Safety.


• The Property Appraiser’s Office estimates approximately $8.5 million in damages as of 3 p.m. today.


• All pet adoption and reclaim fees, and library charges will continue to be waived through Sept. 18.
• LakeXpress public transit fares are currently suspended until Sept. 19.
• Residential landfill and convenience center drop off fees are waived through Oct. 2.


• Power companies are working to restore power to 101,373 Lake County customers.
• Drivers should exercise caution on roads and treat non-working traffic lights as a four-way stop
• Never drive over downed power lines or through flood waters.
