Lake County government offices to close for Thanksgiving
Trash collection to shift by one day

RELEASE DATE: November 18, 2020

Tavares – All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving and will reopen Monday, Nov. 30.

The Lake County Solid Waste Division will suspend curbside collection on Thanksgiving Day. Collection normally scheduled for Thursday will shift to Friday, and Friday collection will occur on Saturday. Lake County’s Central Solid Waste Facility landfill operations, located at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares, will be closed for Thanksgiving but will operate normally on Friday. Residential convenience centers, as well as customer service, will be closed both Thursday and Friday.

Except for bulk items, any excess trash or recycling, either bagged or placed into a non-county trash cart, will be accepted from Friday, Nov. 27 – Friday, Dec. 4. To request collection of bulk items, such as furniture, appliances and other large household items, residents should notify their hauler directly or contact Solid Waste at 352-343-3776. The Lake County Animal Shelter, located at 28123 County Road 561 in Tavares, will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27, and open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 and Sunday, Nov. 29.

Lake County Connection, the County’s disadvantaged transportation service, and LakeXpress, the fixed-route bus system, will not operate on Thanksgiving, but will resume regular services Friday, Nov. 27. For more information and schedules, visit www.ridelakexpress.com.

The Lake County Extension Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares, will be closed both Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27. For information about upcoming events hosted by the Extension, visit http://lake.ifas.ufl.edu/

All 16 Lake County Library System libraries will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27. The Fruitland Park Library will close early on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m. In addition, the following libraries will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 28: Eustis Memorial Library, Fruitland Park Library, Helen Lehmann Memorial Library (Montverde), Leesburg Public Library, Lady Lake Public Library, Marianne Beck Memorial Library (Howey-in-the-Hills), Minneola Schoolhouse Library, Umatilla Public Library and W.T. Bland Public Library (Mount Dora). For library schedules and programs, visit www.mylakelibrary.org.

The Department of Health in Lake County will close on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 and will not offer COVID-19 testing at the Clermont WIC location on these days. Testing will continue as normal on Monday, Nov. 30. The COVID-19 testing location administered by Adult Medicine of Lake County at the Lake Square Mall will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
