Welcome to the Lake County Comprehensive Plan Web page. Required by law, the comprehensive plan is the foundation for local planning as it acts as an outline of the community's vision and priorities.
The comprehensive plan was drafted in partnership between Lake County citizens, municipalities, county government and other local and regional entities. Thecomp plan “Planning Horizon 2030” provides flexible guidelines for policymakers, land managers and land users about how to conserve, rehabilitate or develop an area.
Planning Horizon 2030 stipulates the ultimate goals of efficient transportation, adequate employment, affordable housing, needed capital improvements and access to clean air, water and open space for the next 20 years.
A host of data was used in developing the plan, including census figures, demographics and economic factors. It is aim of Lake County to compose a 2030 Comprehensive Plan that balances demand for public utilities, development and conservation; and provide concurrency provisions for infrastructure, transportation and public education while attaining adequate revenue to finance these demands.
Planning Horizon 2030 is in conjunction with the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) which was developed by the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The 20-year LRTP will be completed in December. The Lake-Sumter MPO seeks to improve transportation in both counties for all modes of travel, including mass transit, walking, bicycling, as well as the automobile.
