Topic Focus: Overview of economic trends, as well as current and future development projects happening throughout Lake County in strategic growth corridors.

1:30 p.m. – Land Development, Water and Energy: Restoration

Pierce Jones, Director and founding member of the Program for Resource Efficient Communities

Topic Focus: Dr. Jones will lead a discussion on the impacts of design on transit, energy, and water; along with opportunities for increased density and transit efficiency.

2 p.m. – The Green Leap: A Holistic Approach to Designing and Managing Urban Developments for Biodiversity

Mark Hostetler, Professor in the Department of Wildlife Ecology, University of Florida

Topic Focus: Mr. Hostetler will inform participants on lessons learned in habitat preservation and community education while he worked with master-planned communities such as Harmony in Orlando and green-living communities such as Madera in Gainesville; and how these experiences will be applied to future projects.

2:45 p.m. – Sustainable Development by Design

Brian Canin, President of Canin Associates

Topic Focus: Mr. Canin will recount personal experiences designing Restoration, a master-planned community in Central Florida, and application of how these experiences can relate to new projects, including opportunities for creating good environments for sustainable development.

3:15 p.m. – In Perfect Harmony: Experiences Financing and Marketing Sustainable, Healthy Developments

Jim Lentz, Chairman, Harmony Development Company

Topic Focus: Mr. Lentz will recount personal experiences from developing the Harmony community, with an emphasis on how to finance and market green features.
